Martin Beal/Smile: Opera, theater, Beal does it all and has been at it for 30 years, probably most of which has been spent swimming against the musical tides. The striking thing about this set of jazz/cabaret oldies is that he sounds like Gene Kelly doing a cocktail jazz date. Fun stuff that certainly doesn’t ruffle any feathers, its easy charm just has weekend listening written all over it.

Thank you for the Martin Beal CD! Very nice voice and an excellent quintet backing him. Good program choice, in short, The Perfect Package!

When [Martin Beal] sang ‘Our Love Is Here To Stay’ he made me put down my notes and just listen. That voice would make my grandmother swoon.

As Professor Henry Higgins, Martin Beal filled [the role] beautifully. Add a fine singing voice to his polished dramatic instincts and quicksilver, volatile acting and he was the compelling backbone of the story.
